Eric Rose van Dorne

Eric took his first trip outside the country when he was nineteen years old on a liquor run to Tijuana, Mexico while an undergrad at San Francisco State University. Since then, international travel has become his obsession and he has traveled extensively in over 40 countries on five continents. Eric spent ten years as a low-budget adventure traveler, most often with his backpack as his only travel companion. Since meeting his husband in 2011, he no longer has to be afraid of what critters might be lurking under his hotel bed, but he still has a strong preference for off-the-beaten path locales.

His most memorable travel experiences include catching a ride with contraband smugglers from Laos to Vietnam, accidentally hiking all the way to the bottom of the world’s deepest canyon in Peru, and letting a letting a friendly group of Bedoin put him on their camel and take him back to their camp for tea in the Sinai peninsula of Egypt. He is currently an educator working in teacher education and curriculum design based out of San Francisco. Eric earned a Master’s in Education from UC Berkeley and spent fifteen years in the classroom and leading educational research and professional development groups. He also enjoys hiking, camping, snowboarding and cooking.
