Carte d’Or

Carte d’Or

In the summer of 1986, I traveled around the world with the Yale Whiffenpoofs, singing for our supper — or in the case of Monte Carlo, full room and board in exchange for a 30 minute set at dinner. The Carte d’Or allowed the 14 of us to spend the day drinking endless bottles of Rosé at the Beach Club pool. Today, the Société des Bains de Mer uses a plastic black room key, but the Carte d’Or always takes me back to my first taste of golden age luxury.
