ManAboutWorld Global Correspondents John Walker and Gavin Patterson visited Uruguay, discovered the gay Undarius Hotel and brought back this CheckOut update.

Gay-only Undarius hotel TOP/BOTTOM LINE

If an all over tan is what you want, somewhere you can relax under tall pine trees in a private tranquil garden by a sparkling saltwater pool, then you will love Undarius Hotel. Just over twelve months old, gay owned and managed, set in a semi-rural, beachside landscape, this is a perfect place for a complete chill out.

“We are not a place for parties. We are a place for relaxation and tranquility.” (Francisco)

Undarius is owned by Francisco and Mario who built this beautiful private gay male hideaway from the ground up. Together with their friendly pooch (Tina Turner), they will make your stay one you will be sure to rave about to all your friends.

Location

Undarius is located 20 kilometres out of Punta del Este in Uruguay and an easy three hundred metre walk from famous Chihuahua Beach. The hotel is wonderfully quiet with acres of surrounding natural bushland. The brilliant sunsets and myriad of stars in the clear black night sky are the wow factors. There are a few local restaurants a short drive away but for international standard shopping, partying and night clubbing take the highway which follows the long stretch of beaches into Punta del Este.

Rooms/BATHROOMS

At Undarius there are twelve rooms in total which offer three levels of accommodation.

Bunk level, is cheap and cheerful and is very popular with those travelling alone. Each person has a locker, a single bed and a shared bathroom and lots of instant buddies.

The standard rooms are modest, clean and light, with air conditioning, a queen size bed, TV, safe and a basic private bathroom.

There is one deluxe room in the complex with a king bed, TV, air conditioning, safe, cooking facilities, dining table, chairs and space for an extra bed if required.

All rooms have a balcony with views overlooking the pool and garden and are exceptionally quiet.

Amenities

The main feature of Undarius is its calm, relaxing and peaceful feel. The pool and garden are the centre of activity whether for nude sunbaking or just a dip and a chat with other guests. There is a small restaurant where Mario serves a complimentary breakfast and a good morning kiss each day. They also have a limited menu for dinner which is available at an additional charge each night.

Chihuahua Beach, which is officially nude, is certainly a huge drawcard with its endless sand, safe swimming and dunes at the back where you might find some extra fun. It also has a great little restaurant called Explorer right on the beach which is ideal for a light, healthy meal. Loti the owner treats all her boys like family members and don’t bother to dress for lunch. Undarius has beach chairs, umbrellas and bikes for hire which you can organise before your excursion.

As the hotel is relatively new there is a multi-channel satellite TV in each room with some programs offering multiple language options. There are also international electrical outlets and free wifi all around the complex. Solar panels keep the pool at a perfect temperature all day long, always ready for when you decide to take the plunge.

 GAY FACTOR

This place rocks sexiness. The extra warm welcome by hunky owners Mario and Fran is a great start to your vacation at

Sunset on the beach

Undarius. These gorgeous guys make your stay as pleasant as possible with personal pick-up from the airport, advice about local activities and sightseeing and when you book one of Mario’s massages you can be sure you will receive highly personal treatment.

The mostly South American clientele hangout loosely clad or completely nude in and around the pool. This is the place to discover new social networks and exchange travel tips and tales or just keep reading the novel you can’t put down.

The rooms have one way glass so you can see out but others cannot see in. In the bunk room there is a twin shower, excellent for showering with a friend. The deluxe room shower is certainly ‘peek-a-boo’ as it is situated in the ‘centre stage’ position of the main room.

Because Undarius is located out of town there is no local gay night life. However, you won’t have to try too hard to find some fun with new friends in the resort.

RATES

Check different dates on the Undarius Hotel website for the various rates and note the hotel closes for all of June, July and August. Regular guests are offered discounts. If you make a booking directly with the hotel and out of the high season (December, January or February) rates will be cheaper.

Check out is normally at 11:00am however, if rooms are not needed, Mario and Fran are very happy to try to accommodate later check out requirements.

Undarius was a thoroughly pleasant surprise. Having stayed in many gay resorts around the world this ‘new kid on the block’ gets a tick as a favourite for warm hospitality and a carefree sojourn. And the Chihuahua sunsets will blow your mind.
