The stunning Mediterranean coast of Tel Aviv

Drum roll….please! Tel Aviv tops WOW Travel’s list of gayest destinations in the world, which features amazing LGBT-thriving cities like Berlin, London, Sao Paulo, and Toronto.

According to the article, “Right at the heart of the Middle East, lies a city called Tel Aviv. A bubble of sanity in an otherwise difficult and tense area. Tel Aviv, a city blessed with year-round sunshine and white sandy beaches, is one of the most liberal cities in the world. It is the most gay friendly city, not only in the Middle East but in the entire world. This vibrant city is an undisputed queer capital of the Middle East, It offers a 24/7 non-stop activities, all year round great weather, great food, gay beaches and infinite of gay bars and night clubs. Every June Tel Aviv is celebrating the Gay Pride week, week of celebrations and happenings throughout the city with Pride Expo (Gay Culture Fair), LGBT Theater festival, LGBT Film Festival and the famous Pride Parade which is one of the most colorful gay parades in the world.”

petraAmidst all the violence and blame in the middle east right now, this essay by Peter Schwartz in response to Brian Eno captures our sadness at the intractability and inhumanity of the situation. Just last year, ManAboutWorld founder Billy Kolber traveled throughout Petra (above) while associate editor Kenny Porpora made his way through Israel (below.) We pray for peace and freedom.

israel 2Tel Aviv has come into its own in recent year with a gay scene as large as many similar size cities in North America and, depending on your tastes, with some of the hottest guys in the world. Exhibit A is the irresistibly hot Ori Avrahami, pictured above and below, the muscular cover model for F.O.D’s Pride issue. Learn more about F.O.D. on Facebook.

We are sending a writer to Pride so we’ll have our own Tel Aviv guide soon. For now, download F.O.D.’s guide for a round up of Pride activities as well as recommendations for where to stay, eat, play/meet and more.

Additionally blessed with a terrific beach, really nice weather, great food and proximity to popular Middle East attractions from religious sites in Jerusalem and the Dead Sea to Petra and more, Tel Aviv is well worth a visit. We love it during Gay Pride when all the boys come out to play from throughout the region. Tel Aviv Gay Pride is Friday June 7 but there are events throughout the week leading up to June 8.
