This hidden gem of Monaco’s glitzy Port Hercule is located in the recently inaugurated, sustainably-built, and members-only Monaco Yacht Club designed by Sir Norman Foster. Enjoy sips on the terrace while watching some of the fanciest and most luxurious yachts in the world glide in and out of this exclusive port. That giant cruise ship over there? Not a cruise ship. That’s somebody’s superyacht!

Monaco is sometimes seen as unaffordable and of course this is a playground of the rich but there’s a hidden side to this tiny principality snuggled on the French Riviera just east of Nice that’s affordable to mere

The evening glow of Monaco's Riviera coastline

The evening glow of Monaco’s Riviera coastline

Celebrate your love in Monaco. Download ManAboutWorld’s FREE guide to Weddings, Honeymoons and Celebration Travel. Monaco is a country of  fairytale romance, the backdrop of so many storybook honeymoons — but never before has it been so possible to make that daydream into a reality.

At the eastern edge of the French Riviera at just 500 acres, this regal, autonomous region packs more opulence, decadence, history and style than most countries many times its size. Of course, Monaco has luxurious, elegant hotels where fantasies of princes on white horses comes true – sometimes literally. Yet, it is easily accessible, and surprisingly affordable — no more expensive than Paris or Rome  — especially with the dollar so strong against the euro.  It’s perfect to celebrate your first big trip, your first days as newlyweds or many years of wedded bliss.

You and your new husband will enjoy a morning hike, or walk by Fontvieille Harbor at night, when the city’s gone quiet, and the lamps and stars glow together. You two can gamble in one of the city’s five casinos, or, after a leisurely breakfast, make your way to the Palace by 11:55 to witness the changing of the guards, and then visit the Monaco Cathedral where Grace Kelly is buried, a few minutes away. Take a romantic quick day-trip to nearby hill town Eze — the cobblestoned streets and sweeping Cote d’Azur views are what inspired Cezanne. And, of course, the gay nightlife of Nice is easily accessible … or … simply stay in town for world-renown performances by the Monte Carlo Philharmonic Orchestra, Les Ballets de Monte-Carlo and Opéra Monte-Carlo.
