The stunning vistas of Alaska, in ManAboutWorld gay travel magazineDillon Davis is ManAboutWorld’s associate photo editor. He recently visited Alaska and brought back this photo report. This piece was originally published in ManAboutWorld gay travel magazine.

  1. Why did you choose to go to Alaska?

I have always wanted to see Alaska so when my friend, Greg (in the photo above) was planning a trip for his 30th birthday I jumped at the opportunity to tag along.

  1. Who did you travel with?

My best friend since childhood. Throughout his 20’s he had challenged himself to visit all fifty states before his 30th birthday. With forty nine states in tow, Alaska would be his finish line.

  1. What surprised you most about Alaska?

Between the sun never fully setting and the cinematic sprawl of the landscape, Alaska took on a sort of otherworldliness that I couldn’t possibly have anticipated.Gorgeous landscapes in Alaska, in ManAboutWorld gay travel magazine

  1. Favorite moment was…

When hiking in Denali national park on the Mt. Healy Overlook Trail we came across a moose wandering nearby. Before it noticed us and ran off, we stood still and quiet, awestruck by its towering grandeur.

  1. Best time to go to Alaska

I think the best time might be late August when the weather is still on the warmer side, the tourism season hasn’t come to a close, and the Northern lights make an occasional appearance.

  1. Gay factor

From hiking, canoeing, and camping to whitewater rafting or just enjoying a fresh caught salmon, Alaska has many opportunities for male bonding and rugged adventure.

We asked Dillon, ManAboutWorld’s talented photo editor, to share a few words about some of his his favorite images from this month’s issue. Here’s what moved him about this image of Mykonos harbor.

When looking at this photograph, it’s hard for me not to envision a scene out of a Julie Delpley movie. One where two young lovers stroll carelessly through an exotic city, frequently happening across charming locations such as this small portside taverna.  It is nestled in a sandy patch of shoreline carved out along the Mykonos harbor, where the narrow hillside streets give way to a vast expanse of water and small motorboats. Conversation is illuminated by a single strand of electric bulb lights, strung up to the mast of an old fishing vessel long since settled ashore. What more perfect setting for a moment in life, one worth re-watching time and time again.
