paetrioA recent New York Times article about a new, authentic Thai restaurant in Elmhurst, Queens – Paet Rio–  seemed to both harken back to ManAboutWorld’s ‘Dine Around The World’ feature we published in our New York Takeover guide this past Spring, and look ahead to our upcoming Thailand guide. Our idea was to showcase the culinary diversity throughout New York’s five boroughs – the Poles of Greenpoint, the Russians of Brighton Beach, the Koreans of Jackson Heights, and so on – but the news of Elmhurst bursting onto the scene as NYC’s new Thai Town is welcomed news to us.

After 10 days of blissful retreat in the Kingdom of Thailand, our Editor-in-Chief, Ed Salvato, and our four global correspondents, have headed home to their far-flung posts around the globe (and for Ed, another journey awaits him in Spain!) From the chaotic metropolis of Bangkok to the spiritual high ground of Chiang Mai to the tropical vistas of Phuket, we marveled at how much Thailand had changed since we had last visited more than 20 years ago, how far it had come, and how beautiful it had stayed.

Look for our insider guide to Thailand in an upcoming issue. And if you haven’t been, go soon. There’s no place quite like it on Earth.

patara

In Chiang Mai, a spiritual northern city of Thailand, our Editor-in-Chief and four of our global correspondents found themselves at the Patara Animal Farm where they became proud new elephant owners (but just for the day.) It’s just one unforgettable excursion you’ll experience when trekking through this gorgeous country, where urban chaos and tropical beachfronts and hedonistic port towns and ancient, rural farms all converge. We’ll be covering Thailand in an upcoming issue and sharing all of our stories and insider tips.
