President Obama in Africa

This informative gay travel news update is brought to you by toManAboutWorld correspondent Ashton Giese who recently celebrated a successful first year of the indispensable Geography which talks about being Gay in Ethiopia and more.

In this week’s gay travel news brief, check out details on what it’s like to be gay in Ethiopia —where President Obama just visited. Who would have imagined just a few years ago that an African-American President would speak out for LGBT rights in Africa?

Meanwhile Russia has fined a children’s LGBT site and plans to ban gay-themed emojis.Whether you’re off to Vietnam or Vancouver for Pride — or maybe just down south to Charleston — you’ll be able to don your Boy Scout uniform since leaders as well as scouts can now be out and proud (though locales have discretion relating to openly gay leaders).

Sporty Italian kiss in ManAboutWorld gay travel magazine

Baci sportivi Italiani

Gay sports fans — this was your week with Caitlyn Jenner accepting an ESPY and an Italian magazine forcing sports fans to pick up a copy with gay rugby players kissing! Sadly, you missed National Nude Day, but you can celebrate in Nairobi if you like protesting. Anti-gay organizers plan to hire prostitutes to walk nude in protest of the President’s visit next month.

Life continues to be rough for LGBT Russians but thankfully two Russian YouTubers felt straight enough — and secure enough — to hold hands in Moscow and record it to see what happened. Read about this, expanding U.S. relations with Cuba and all the best networking & event options in Berlin in this week’s brief.

Celebrations abound after last week’s well-timed decision in support of marriage equality! Yet the backlash also continues abroad — with Zimbabwe’s Mugabe “proposing” to Obama — but Mozambique at least took some initial steps and decriminalized homosexuality!

This week’s brief includes some great information about Vietnam as well as all the best info on EuroPride in Riga from my GAYography blog. See you on Fire Island for Invasion this weekend!

beautiful Capri island, ItalyThis column is brought to you by Ashton Giese, ManAboutWorld correspondent and editor of the GAYography newsbrief.

Crazy news from Lithuania where the military is alleged to be (gay) testing conscripts by asking if they “like picking flowers” or “worked in the floral industry” to determine grounds for military dismissal! Maybe next year EuroPride will need to move to beautiful Vilnius where I am coming from today writing this week’s brief. I’ll be in Riga, Latvia for EuroPride 2015 until Tuesday.

Also check out coolest new blogs on Saigon, Vietnam & Tulum, Mexico — and see how pride expanded in Athens, Greece! If you’re in NYC for Pride next week be sure to check out the NYC Center’s events!

Finally, join Oscar Wilde Tours’ Italy trip and get a $400 discount!
